Callander Meadows, 10.30am, 12pm, 1.30pm, 14 July 2019
Open canoes are a great way to experience getting out on the water. Using the single-bladed paddle whilst working in a team, Active Stirling will show you how to control the canoe and paddle along with a qualified instructor.
In these one-hour sessions you will be introduced to the activity and learn the basic skills to control the canoe and have a paddle about on the mellow River Teith in the heart of Callander.
What you will need: clothing appropriate to the weather conditions, something you don’t mind getting wet or a bit dirty, and a change of clothes on hand when you get back to the shore, in case you get wet.
What we will provide: a buoyancy aid that will be fitted to you when you arrive, the paddles, canoe and the qualified staff.
More information: Minimum age is 6 years old. Children under 14 years old must be accompanied on the water by an adult. An adult can only accompany a maximum of two children if they are under the age of 14 years old. Children over the age of 14 and up to 16 may take part on the activity without an adult on the water as long as there is parental/guardian consent prior to activity starting.
What is expected of you on the day: you should be fit and healthy to take part in the canoe activity; you will be asked to sit down or kneel in the canoe, listen to guidance and use your arms to pull and push the paddle; it's a good idea if you can swim.
If you have a mobility problem or disability that you may think will affect your decision to take part please contact firstname.lastname@example.org. Our activities are adaptable up to a point and we would like to give you the chance where we can.
Canoe capacity: 2 adults, or 2 adults + 2 children under 10 years old, or 2 adults + 1 child over 10 years old.
£25 per canoe
The 12noon session is fully booked
We are also running Loch Canoe Trips on Friday 19 July.
