Our Callander

Citizen of the Year and Award for Outstanding Citizenship

The Community Council is delighted to announce two recent awards and invites the town to join us in celebrating this well-deserved important recognition of members of our community. In addition to the annual Citizen of the Year, CCC determined that it would also recognize individuals who have made long-term contributions to the community with a separate award for Outstanding Citizenship (read the details of the process here). The first such award was made at the December meeting of CCC. Formal presentations will be made as soon as the community can meet together.

Outstanding Citizenship: Calum Menzies

Calum Menzies is well known to most in Callander. He has brought up his family in Callander and both he and his wife work in Callander. Calum has run the Post Office with his father for the past 10 or so years and over that time the Post Office has been a centre point for the community. Customers, locals and visitors alike, are always given a cheery welcome and treated with great patient and helpful advice. These are qualities which we need in Callander and which give Callander a good name. Calum is always willing to help anyone in the community without seeking any credit, he is also a valuable member of the Killin Mountain Rescue Team and is a past Community Councillor.

Citizen of the Year 2021: FETCH: young people from McLaren High School

This year, 2020, has been an extremely difficult year and Callander has shown that it has a strong community. The award of Citizen of the Year, made during the darkest days of this pandemic, reflects the light and hope brought to all of us by that community spirit. Spoiled for choice, CCC felt that the group of young people who operated FETCH for the more vulnerable members of our community had made a difference that needed to be recognized now. It is with respect to all who have supported the community through this year, that we award Citizen of the Year to these inspirational younger members of our community. In making this award, we wish to show them the appreciation of the whole town, not just those who benefited by a delivery but all of us whose spirits they uplifted by their acts of kindness.
