Local information about The Trossachs
The Trossachs is one of the most popular holiday Destinations in Scotland, lying on the southern edge of the Scottish Highlands and easily accessible from major Scottish cities and from trunk roads. Its tourism industry blossomed during the Victorian period with the advent of steam rail, and then, as now, attracted tourists eager to escape the industrial surroundings of their cities to find the fresh air and scenic surroundings.
If you'd like to learn about the Trossachs history, our history section offers extensive information. Populated by Gaelic speaking highlanders the Trossachs was involved in many important events which made Scotland what it is now. The glens were the scene of many a clan feud and the Stewart Kings of Scotland made parts of the Trossachs into a favoured hunting ground. Stolen or 'lifted' cattle were driven through the Trossachs from the Highlands by the famous outlaw Rob Roy MacGregor to be hidden in the Flanders Moss before being sold to lowland dealers.
Many holidaymakers visit Doune for the local distillery which offers tours by appointment
If you are looking for something more active to spend your time in the Trossachs, choose from the many golf courses available nearby, or visit Loch Earn or Loch Ard for watersports such as windsurfing and waterskiing.
